What must it have been like to be Mary?
The mother of Jesus
With angels who ministered
Whispering gently 'Your Son is divine'
and that trembling young woman, she knew
Then the angel spoke
To humble shepherds in the fields
Who sought the stable's flickering light
Which shone upon His face

What must it have been like to be Joseph?
To hold in your arms
A Redeemer a King
And in dreams to be told 'He is Lord'
And this humble young carpenter knew
Then the star appeared
And drew the princely strangers close
Who spread before the tiny group
Gold frankincense and myrrh

What must it have been like to be Jesus?
A suffering son
Watch a mother in grief
Yet compassion welled strong in His heart
As he gave her to John's tender care
We do not know how long
Alone He agonised for us
But God so loved this ailing world
He sent His Perfect Son
